Our Story
Cistel was established in Ottawa in 1995 to provide software engineering services to one of Canada’s largest technology success stories Nortel Networks. As the relationship flourished, Cistel grew into the role of Nortel’s Trusted Advisor with the client requesting a wider range of services including IT consulting services.
As Cistel continued to build a reputation for delivering premier IT services, the Canadian Federal Government took notice and in September 1997, Cistel was awarded its first GC contract. Today, IT consulting for the Federal Government has become a significant part of our business.
By 2003, Cistel had developed a full Ottawa based IT Managed Services program to help clients avoid IT disruptions and focus on their core business. In addition, Cistel built a portfolio of security, privacy, and advanced Microsoft solutions to keep clients in front of ever evolving IT issues. This forward thinking is a primary reason for Cistel’s continuous year over year growth.
Today, Cistel has grown to include offices in Ottawa, Toronto, and Atlanta and provide a complete suite of solutions including Staffing Services, IT Managed Services, Microsoft Practice, Security Practice, and Management Consulting/Advisory Services. This diversification, depth, and breadth of expertise have allowed Cistel to position itself as a key client IT partner and trusted advisor.

Research & Development – A Reputation for Innovation
One of our key competitive advantages is the innovative products and solutions that Cistel brings to market. These leading edge offerings are a result of a commitment to reinvest a portion of revenues to be applied to research and development.
In addition to our own research, Cistel remains a key financial contributor to research at Canadian universities including Carleton University, University of Ottawa, Queen’s University, Concordia University, University of Waterloo, and the University of Toronto. This investment in research and development have resulted in the creation of four successful companies, many published technical papers, and several patents.
Community Involvement
A young team with young families, Cistel’s employees understand the importance of giving back to the community and quickly connected with the excellent work of Ottawa’s Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO).
