The software / application architecture serves as the blueprint for the software system.  Having a well-documented software architecture aids in the management of the project and defining the work assignments that must be carried out by design, development and implementation teams.  The software / application architecture defines the system qualities, such as performance, modifiability, and security, as well as the functionality of the system / application.
